Abundance & Prosperity

By: Mei Mei.

The word “abundance” comes from abunda-re, Latin for “to overflow”. “Prosperity” comes from the Latin prospera-re, meaning “to render fortunate”.

Everyone knows someone who is a chronic complainer. Nothing is ever right, they are never happy no matter what they do or what is done for them. They live in a world of negativity and no possibility. When you ask whether he or she would like to do something that you consider fun, the first word out of his or her mouths is “no.” Without even considering the positive side of a situation, they jump head first into what is wrong and lacking. The mind is like a river that can flow in any direction. You can train the mind to flow smoothly in the direction of your choosing or you can choose to have an abundance of “no” mind. You can prosper with a mind that you guide to live fully in the moment, free of any lack or desperation. As you can see, the choice is yours and yours alone.

Here is a meditation exercise you can do to observe your brain at work. Use your journal or some paper to write your answers to the following questions:

  • Is your first response to a situation usually negative?
  • Do you feel there is never enough in your life?
  • Do you feel that everyone else has more opportunities than you do?
  • Do you feel that you lack the power to move forward in your life?
  • Do you always have an excuse for not having enough, 1) Money, 2) Energy, 3) Love, 4) Happiness, 5) Talent, 6) Patience?

After you’ve answered the questions, sit in meditation and allow your mind to calm. Bring your focus to your breath and let go of any tension in your body. Allow the exhale to “clean house,” removing the toxic buildup of stress and negativity in your mind. Mentally step aside so that as the thoughts arise you are simply observing your mind reacting to what is momentarily present. Recite the following Abundance mantra to help dissolve the negative thoughts and release the internal light of mindful awareness.

Breathing in, Abundance surrounds me.
Breathing out, Abundance is life.
